Sweet Poha

sweet poha

Sweet poha is a easy snack. It can be prepared in 10 minutes. It’s loved by one and all. Amchis /Konkanis prepare this on birthdays, Krishna Janmashtami, Tulasi Pooja or when one feels like having it. It is easy naivedya /offering to god that doesn’t require any expertise in cooking.

Ingredients

2 cups thin poha/ beaten rice

½ cup grated jaggery/ brown sugar

½ cup grated coconut

1 teaspoon Cardamom

1 tablespoon roasted sesame seeds

2 teaspoons ghee/clarified butter (use unsalted)

Method

Mix jaggery, coconut and cardamom well. Add thin poha and mix well. Water in the coconut gives moistness and incorporates jaggery well into the sweet poha.

If you want to keep it for couple of days, heat up ¼ cup of water add grated jaggery/brown sugar. Bring it to 1 thread consistency. Add coconut and cardamom. This is called churna. Allow it to cool completely then add thin poha, roasted sesame seeds, and ghee.  If you add poha when it is hot, the poha hardens and it won’t be tasty.
